Book III continues with Commander John Reese investigating an abandoned Naval base which he suspects is somehow connected to his search for the young female vampires. He is suddenly joined by the Team of Darkness vampires who seek out Reese to help them escape with the two young vampire girls. The investigation leads them to a confrontation with personnel from the Agency while a SEAL team recaptures the younger vampires previously rescued. Reese and the vampires devise a method to get the girls freed as well as to fake their deaths during the escape.
