Navy Commander John Reese has been given the perfect opportunity of his lifetime; the chance to prove the existence of creatures that for centuries have haunted the myths and legends of Europe, the creatures known as vampires. The Balkan region has been the center for many myths and legends about these creatures and in many tales are considered their origin and private sanctuary. Now, during the peacekeeping operations in the Kosovo region, a group of these creatures are discovered by the American Forces as they investigate mysterious murders of local residents of a village.
